CHS Black-Eyed Susan Book Club Welcomes the New Year with Amazing Reads
    LARRY

Every year the members of the Black-Eyed Susan Book Club read at least three of the nominated books throughout the school year. At the end of the school year, the members come together to vote for their favorite book out of all of the nominees. The 2022-2023 Nominees were:

Blackout by Dhonielle Clayton; Tiffany D. Jackson; Angie Thomas; Ashley Woodfolk; and Nicola Yoon

    Firekeepers Daughter by Angeline Boulley

The Girls I’ve Been by Tess Sharpe

The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

    Last Girls by Demetra Brodsky

    Legendborn by Tracy Deonn

Long Way Down: the graphic novel by Jason Reynolds; Illustrated by Danica Novgorodoff

    Pumpkin by Julie Murphy

    Raybearer by Jordan Ifueko

White Smoke by Tiffany D. Jackson

And the winner was The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes. Though this was not my personal pick, it was a fascinating mystery full of drama and romance.

Below is a list of the of the 2023-2024 Black-Eyed Susan nominated books that the club will be reading this year. If you keep a close eye on these lists, you may recognize some of the book club options as Ms. Mignardi often adds a few each year.

The Agathas by Kathleen Glasgow and Liz Lawson

All My Rage by Sabaa Tahir

Call Me Athena: Girl from Detroit by Colby Cedar Smith

Eat Your Heart Out by Kelly deVos
