As the weather gets colder, it gets more difficult to find outdoor activities. Luckily, many active events are happening around here. If you are looking to stay active during this holiday season, here are some runs for you.
The Turkey Trot 5 K takes place every year on Thanksgiving morning at Jefferson Patterson Park and is sponsored by Project ECHO. Project ECHO aims to bring hope to the homeless and provide them with assistance. The race is bright and early at 7 am, and it is highly recommended to arrive early, as the park closes all entrances at 6:45 am The race will take place rain or shine, so dress accordingly for the weather conditions. Registering before November 27 costs $45; registering on race day costs $50. Registration includes a long-sleeve race shirt and a custom finisher medal. Results of the times will also be provided. This is a great way to start the Thanksgiving holiday.
Taking place shortly after Thanksgiving, the Jingle Bell Run is another excellent race to stay active during the holiday season. It takes place on December 6 in Solomon’s Island. The Arthritis Foundation hosts this race and is looking to spread awareness and raise money for better treatments and a cure. This race is seeking festive outfits and incredible holiday spirit. For those who want to be timed, the registration fee is $50. Those that are untimed will be $45. Both include a shirt, finishing medal, and jingle bells. For children 12 and under, the fee is $30, and they will receive a shirt and jingle bells. The race begins at Tiki Bar and Grill and starts at 8 am. Participants are encouraged to recruit other runners to join and show their support.
The Naptown Half Marathon and 10k/5k takes place on December 20 in Annapolis. This consists of three different races with separate distances. This race is also seeking festive runners to showcase their spirit. Santa hats will be given to all participants, and there will be prizes for the most unique holiday outfits. Prices range from $43.90 to $107.50, depending on the race, but each gives out a race t-shirt. It begins at the US Naval Academy and passes through downtown Annapolis, providing stunning views. Friends of Anne Arundel Trails is the sponsor for this race. Their goal is to protect and enhance the multimodal trails in Anne Arundel County. The half-marathon and 10 K begin at 7:30 am, while the 5 K starts at 7:45 am.
These races are perfect for staying active while getting into the holiday spirit, whether it is Thanksgiving or Christmas. Get ready to layer up and show off some festivity.
