Maryland State Parks are hosting the “Miles for Maryland Trail Challenge” pushing people to get outdoors and spend time in Maryland’s beautiful parks.
The Maryland Park Service is encouraging visitors to participate in the “Miles for Maryland Trail Challenge” which is 250 miles in Maryland State parks.
Visitors are challenged to walk one mile for every year since the founding of our country, celebrating 250 miles for the 250 anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
Individuals or teams can register for this challenge by paying a $25 fee. And participants who register receive a keepsake.
It is important to note that the $25 does not cover entrance fees to the parks and it is recommended to check if a park has an entrance fee before planning a hike.
Those who are registered and hike 250 miles in 2026 in Maryland State Parks will be eligible for a prize drawing at the end of the challenge.
Besides the prize drawing at the end of the challenge, there will also be monthly prize drawings that those who register are eligible to enter if they submit photos along with their milage reports.
Prize winners may be asked to show proof of completion, so it is recommended to track the miles you complete each month whether on a smartphone or a map/journal.
Visit DNR Outdoor Store – About Us to register for the miles for Maryland challenge.
Miles for Maryland began on January 1, 2026, and will continue until December 31, 2026.
