The new animated Super Mario Galaxy Movie has been in theatres for the past few weeks and has been selling out theatres nonstop. This film has been highly anticipated since the 2023 release of The Super Mario Bros. Movie. It has grossed about $629 million worldwide against a budget of $110 million, making it one of the most profited video game adaptations. Despite this being a kid’s film, many high schoolers and beyond grew up on Mario and Luigi and enjoyed it just as much.
This movie follows Mario and Luigi’s epic adventure into space where they attempt to save Princess Rosalie from capture. On their adventure, they explore unique worlds and meet adorable friends that can help them on their journey. As the brothers unlock new worlds and new surprises, they learn about friendship, teamwork, and love.
This would have made my younger self full of joy. My theatre was packed with teenagers who grew up on Mario and young children who are currently growing up on him. It was nothing but fun, vibrant, and full of entertaining surprises. My favorite character was Yoshi, despite his dialogue only being one word which is, “Yoshi.” The jokes in this movie were perfect for all ages and very lighthearted. Characters like Toad, played by Keegan-Michael Key, and Bowser, played by Jack Black, added plenty of humor that kept the story engaging and enjoyable.
The cosmic worlds Mario and Luigi explore are all bursting with color and are full of unexpected twists. These worlds were so beautiful despite it simply being a kid’s movie, I could not take my eyes off the screen. The Princess Peach land was full of life, while the skull turtles land was eerie but also fascinating. Each land had distinct features that made them stand out.
Overall, this movie is an amazing adaptation and was full of the same fun that the games had. It gave me a nice feeling of nostalgia, and the characters were casted perfectly. I recommend this movie to all ages.
