Next time you are visiting D.C and looking for a savory bite, head to the French restaurant La Bonne Vache. This 4.5-star restaurant lies in a cozy neighborhood in Georgetown and has a delightful menu perfect for your weekend cravings.
They have a great assortment of appetizers, and each plate looks aesthetically pleasing. Their gougères were absolutely divine. They are flavorful buttery cheese puffs with a whipped paprika cream cheese that made my mouth water. Also, their artichaut à la grecque is great for a larger party since the artichoke is the size of a human head. All their appetizers like the escargot and the marinated olives are incredible savory plate options.
Their sandwich menu is mainly burgers, but they have a great selection of them. I must recommend the burger “soupe a l’oignon.” It has to be one of the juiciest burgers I have ever had. The gruyère fondue and garlic aioli mix flawlessly with its patty that is cooked to perfection. As an onion lover myself, this burger is absolutetly loaded with a nice balance of carmelized and crispy onions. The bun is carefully toasted to be golden, so it looks straight out of a commercial. This burger is packed, so after every bite the aioli will slowly ooze out. It has a heavenly consistency and adds just the right touch to the burger. The combination of all these ingredients together makes for the most impeccable burger.
My friend and I visited around noon on a Sunday, and the restaurant was packed. Despite the restaurant being full, the ambiance felt cozy and warm. We only waited about two minutes to sit down, and the service was amazingly fast for how busy it was. After our meal, we enjoyed a delightful cappuccino and were handed a beautiful post card to take home, after paying our bill. This restaurant easily deserves 5 stars for its lovely atmosphere and delicious French onion burger.
