Swim Season Comes To Close

Calvert’s Swim team’s season came to close Sat, March 22 at the State meet. The team triumphed with many personal and team accomplishments and growths. Six school records were broken this season! The coaches, teachers, and the student body are all extremely proud of the effort of these swimmers.

Effort was brought not only by the record breakers, but also by each swimmer. The heart and dedication of the team at practice allowed each athlete to improve continuously on their speed and skill.  All team members supported of one another every day at every practice and meet. The team has a very tight-knit feel that allows students, even new athletes, to be very comfortable in the environment. The Senior Captains: Rachel Stone, Amanda Pitcher, and Casey Young, as well as other captains do a wonderful job of leading, empowering, inspiring the athletes to do their best in their events. Sophomore flyer Anna Almuete said, “I have developed as a swimmer not only by coaches, but also by team encouragement. There is a real feel of team bonding.”

The wide range of athletes, a strength of the team, permits the coaches to place a swimmer in each event; therefore, the athletes have a better opportunity to obtain points for the team.  The girls finished with an outstanding record of 6-3-0; they beat Northern for the first time in Calvert’s history. The boys did well, though they are still a growing program. The swimmers used their heart and passion to produce many personal records at the SMAC and regional meets.

The coaches and team members have high expectations for next season. Coach Mrs. Dryer exclaimed, “I am really excited to see where the young team will go in a year or two!” Be ready to see and support our wonderful swim team next season!
