After a long, eager wait, Zootopia 2 hit the big screens in theatres. Jason Bateman and Ginnifer Goodwin bring the same vibrant energy, humor, and drama to the sequel, as they did in the first Zootopia, nine years ago. Having the fourth-largest box office debut in history, this sequel is not one to miss.
Taking place only a week after Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde’s successful arrest against Mayor Bellwether, Judy and Nick struggle to prove to the city that they are perfect police partners. When they are mysteriously greeted by a snake species, which has not been seen in Zootopia in over a century, the city chaotically panics, and Judy and Nick must figure out the reason for this unexpected welcome.
This movie brought joy to the whole theatre, filled with young children, and also young adults who enjoyed the first movie as kids. It was filled with amusing out-of-pocket moments that had the crowd’s cackles echoing through the theatre. With the introduction of a new character, Nibbles Maplestick, played by Fortune Feimster, this beaver had the crowd even gasping for air at points with her over-the-top personality. Small moments from characters like the Zebros and Dr. Fuzzby also had the audience bursting out with laughter. As always, Nick’s sly, cheesy humor never failed at making people giggle. Don’t worry though, Zootopia 2 did not forget to include sentimental, emotional moments that had everyone sniffling.
Zootopia is also well known for its beautiful landscapes. The forests, tundras, and deserts are all uniquely showcased with stunning features. In this movie, we are introduced to new biomes that made me personally wish I lived there. This animation was breathtaking, and I was fascinated by the tiny details that made each biome perfect for its designed animals.
Overall, Zootopia 2 checks all the boxes for an entertaining, adorable Disney movie. I was on the edge of my seat at specific points and holding back tears at others. The love-hate chemistry between Nick and Judy was brilliantly portrayed, and I often found myself smiling during their playful bickering scenes. Well-known Disney director Jared Bush did not fall short in the slightest for this film.
