This past election cycle, Calvert County citizens voted for candidates to take seats on the Calvert County Board of Education. Below are the winners from each district.
In District 1, the winner Joeseph Marchio, a St. Leonard resident, believes strongly in restoring the fundamentals of education: learning, rights, and values. With plans to take out critical race theory from all classrooms and provide more transparency between parents and schools, he also wishes to fix oversight on behavioral issues in school and place processes to ensure the BOE is held accountable to the taxpayers it is funded by.
In District 2, Huntingtown resident Paul Harrison’s goal is to provide a voice to the passive taxpayer. He plans to ensure budgets are aligned with BOE policies, local needs and values, as well as ensuring that the school systems needs for tax dollars is as low as possible.
In District 3, the election winner Melissa Goshorn is advocating for closing the learning gap in all students directly affected after COVID shutdowns by updating the curriculum, ensuring consistency across classrooms, and providing opportunities for high achievers. She believes firmly in equality of access in classrooms and has plans for the BOE to be more strictly enforce the Code of Conduct to combat behavioral issues.
