The series Spy X Family has gained much popularity since its animated debut in April 2022. The anime was the most popular anime in the spring of 2022 and is the tenth-highest ranking anime of all time on MyAnimeList. Spy X Family is an anime adaptation of the manga series Spy X Family, published in 2019 by the author Tatsuya Endo.  

The story is set in Ostania, which is in a cold war with Westalis. The time period is similar to the 1960s. The main character is a spy called Twilight. Twilight’s endgame objective is to do everything in his power to prevent an all-out war with Westalis.  

Twilight’s latest mission is to create a fake family–a wife and a child–so they can infiltrate the school that the son of a political leader in Westalis attends. With his given name for the mission, Loid Forger, Twilight adopts a child and marries. However, Twilight’s child and wife, whom he chooses for his mission, both have major secrets.

While Twilight’s double life is extraordinary, the lives of his now wife, Yor, and daughter, Anya, are no different. Yor, though blessed with a very sweet and caring personality, is an extremely deadly assassin.  Anya, a young girl who has a simple love for peanuts, is a telepath. All three family members live double lives that the other two don’t know about.  

Readers of the manga series and watchers of the anime get to experience the daily life of the Forger family and all the shenanigans they get into. As both a reader and a watcher of Spy X Family, I fully understand and support the hype surrounding this series.  

With its mix of slice-of-life, action, and comedy, Spy X Family is easily one of the best shows I’ve ever watched. Binge watching this anime is almost too addicting! I can recommend watching it with friends or family. From the setting to the characters, Spy X Family is a lovely show that can be enjoyed by everyone.
