The season of spring welcomes renewal, new beginnings, and the rebirth of nature. The return of longer days and warmer weather allows for various plants and flowers to grow and showcase their beauty. Here are some flowers you can find in Maryland and their representations that you will be able to recognize during your next time out.
The daffodil is a flower most recognized by its trumpet shaped head. This flower comes in a variety of different colors, shapes, and sizes, each having its own blossoming characteristic. You can most likely find these flowers in the woods, the edges of fields or near flood plains. The daffodil often symbolizes new beginnings and rebirth. Since it is one of the first flowers to bloom at the end of winter into early spring, it announces the beginning of spring and end of colder days.
My personal favorite, cherry blossoms, or cherry trees are most recognized for their fruit and beautiful pink and white color. The cherry blossoms are a popular tourist attraction in Washington D.C and an appealing plant for Maryland scenery. You can mostly find these flowers at a tourist site such as Washington D.C, Kenwood in Bethesda or even in gardens. The cherry blossom often represents the start of spring, renewal, and beauty but its symbolism also expands to different cultures and beliefs throughout the world.
Another flower to look for is called the Larkspur. This flower is most recognized by its height from the ground and its rich blue and purple color but can vary from shape and size. You can most likely find these flowers in gardens, wooded areas, and rich forests. The larkspur often symbolizes humor, stronger bonds and bringing in new beginnings.
There are many other flowers that bloom in the springtime, all with different and unique colors, shapes and symbolisms. When enjoying the returning warm weather of spring, you will be able to sight these flowers or find more that you’ll love.
