Having a snowy day off from school is every kid’s dream during the winter season. With an excuse to sleep in and stay home, kids all across the world understand the feeling of getting a free day off with the promise of fun in its wake no matter the excuse. Here are some ideas on how to enjoy a day full of winter wonderland activities, inside and out.
Even with the weather coating the outside of the house with snowflakes fit to play in, there are still plenty of ways to enjoy the indoors during blistering cold conditions. Snuggling up with family in the warmest pajamas available and binge-watching fitting seasonal movies with a cup of hot cocoa is always a no-brainer when it comes to snow days. If movies aren’t measuring up, playing board games is a great bonding activity and a good way to pass the time. Building a blanket fort in the living room to go along with the games is great for young kids and even older ones to enjoy having to stay inside. Lastly, curling up with a good book in front of a window and watching the snow fall while the trees sway under its weight can be a peaceful reprieve from the realities of everyday life.
In addition to all of these inside activities, there is much fun to be had outside of the house. The best thing to do on a snowy day is to play! Making snow forts, snow angels and snowmen are great ways to connect with friends and family and make lasting memories. Other more exciting activities can include neighborhood snowball fights, sledding, or snow tubing down the nearest large hill. Some of the best childhood memories are made through snow tubing down a large hill at break-neck speeds or wiping out on a sled with friends. To cool down after an adventurous day of play, making homemade snow cones with fresh snow (make sure there’s no yellow!) is a surefire way to make a good snow day a great one!
