Fall is right around the corner, and with that crisp breeze and those crunchy leaves comes loads of fun activities. Southern Maryland just so happens to be one of the best places to spend those chilly fall days, with a plethora of activities catering to a variety of fall loving people.
One of the tried-and-true events of a cool autumnal day is picking out the perfect pumpkin at the local pumpkin patch. Luckily, for Southern Maryland residents, there are a range of farms to choose from.
Rolling Acres Farm located on St. Leonard Road in Port Republic Maryland has an assortment of pumpkins to choose from for even the wildest carving dreams. They are open 7 days a week from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. With the $12 admission fee, visitors can also enjoy all sorts of activities ranging from a petting zoo to a 1.2-mile corn maze. Their fresh produce stand is stocked with all of the yummiest seasonal fruits and vegetables.
Spider Hall Farm located on Hallowing Point Road in Prince Frederick is another must visit to fulfil any pumpkin picking aspirations. This farm is a great option for little ones with a “pick-your-own pumpkin” feature. They are open from October 6-29 on Friday evenings, Saturdays, and Sundays. Other attractions include a corn maze, wagon rides, and an ice cream stand.
Other than the classic pumpkin patch, the Calvert County fair will also be up and running from Sept. 27 through Oct. 1 at the Calvert County fairgrounds. This event features some of autumns greatest features: tractor pulls, livestock, and turkey legs. On Friday, Sept. 29, youth under 18 get in for free until 4:00 p.m.
Another bit of fall fun that no one will want to miss is the corn maze at Jake’s Produce in Port Republic. The maze is open Sept 23 and 24. While there, patrons can also visit the wide selection of fruits and vegetables.
For those who prefer the spookier aspects of the fall season, CornStalker’s trail of terror located in the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs Stadium is a perfect option. This is an outdoor Halloween Attraction spanning 12,000 sq ft with several spooky features.
